من رأى منكم منكراً فليغيره بيده، فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه، فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه، وذلك أضعف الإيمان
“If one of you witnesses wrongdoing, change it with your hand, if you are unable then with your tongue, if you are unable then with your heart, and that is the weakest of faith.” Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
Many people, especially in the west, often forget (or fail to realize in the first place) that Islam is not only a religion, it is a philosophy. Islam is a theory of life and action, not just of faith.
Many of the prophet’s teachings urge Muslims to stand up for what is right, voice opposition, and resist injustice as pillars and proof of faith in God. In this way, to be a Muslim is much more than to pray and fast. It is to be an integrated, upstanding, brave member of society and to take ownership of the social responsibility we all have to uphold justice.
